Exclusive | Legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman lists vibrantly decorated NYC home for $11.9 million

Legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman and his equally musical wife, Toby, are listing their historic, turn-of-the-century Upper West Side home for $11.9 million.

On that note, the listing is sure to make a splash as it comes with an indoor pool and a sauna.

The Perlmans, who are both violinists and founders of the Perlman Music Program for talented young musicians, raised their children here. They last listed the home for $17.5 million in 2022.

At 79, Itzhak Perlman, an Israeli-American who won 16 Grammy Awards, is still performing around the world — including a tour this fall. He is also known for his work as a world-class conductor and beloved teacher. His voice can even be heard every year on New York’s classical music radio station, WQXR, in programs marking the High Holidays and Passover – the holiest days on the Jewish calendar.

The 20-foot-wide span, just off Central Park West at West 70th Street, was built in 1901.

At 8,000 square feet, it features five (up to six) bedrooms, five bathrooms, four powder rooms and six fireplaces. There is also close to 1500 square meters of private outdoor space, including a roof deck, a landscaped terrace and a garden.

It’s one of the few Upper West Side townhouses to boast a “spa level” pool and sauna, the listing notes.

Design details include hardwood floors and lots of custom woodwork.

The salon level boasts 12-foot ceilings and a great room, while the main-floor chef’s kitchen is extra large—a “chef’s dream”—and the sunny dining room features skylights and easy access to the garden. .

Bonus: It’s close to Lincoln Center as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is an easy walk across Central Park.

The Perlmans, friends said, love the Upper West Side, but they’re empty nesters now and looking to downsize. On that note, it’s time for the next family to settle in.

The listing agents are Richard Steinberg and Alexander Mignogna of Compass.
